We are seeing more customers coming to us to test their polymers which has an MFR greater of above 1000 g/10mins. Testing at this high MFR is not easy as materials often run out before test can be completed even when we use a high flow plug.
One of the methods to test the polymer is using Procedure C; which is using “half-die”; capillary with half diameter and length. The test method corresponds to Procedure B.
ASTM1238 defines a test called Procedure C can be conducted only if material melt density is known as is determined by an A/B type test. A half-length die is used and is generally used for testing high flow rate polymers. This is a “no-cuts” test that is the most convenient for busy laboratories.
Dynisco LMI5000 and LMI5500 will be able to test such materials in accordance to ASTM1238 Procedure C.
