Who in the Lab is ready to stop cutting prep-stock samples with scissors & shears by hand? Most wait for production to bring you a sample of material from the floor that may be contaminated with other material being processed. Some have actually tried hand-held coffee grinders…all laborious, time consuming and, unsafe and the “coffee grinder” simply does not work! Believe us, we’ve tried.

The Dynisco MiniGran is meant as a sturdy addition to your Quality Lab and is designed to provide prep-stock material to run in your Dynisco Melt Flow Indexer, Laboratory Capillary Rheometer or other lab equipment that requires the material be size reduced prior to analysis.

The Dynisco Minigran is a “Bench Top” Granulator. Much smaller and more compact than traditional Beside-the-Press granulators and granulators that typically are meant for “on the manufacturing floor” grinding. The unit only weighs about 90lbs and will sit atop any bench or tabletop. It comes with a nominal 3” x 4” hopper opening for small parts and materials needing to be size reduced.

Every unit is sold comes with a 4mm round holed screen (other sizes available upon request). The screen assures that the material is small enough to be used as appropriate prep-stock for Melt Flow Indexers & Rheometers that have a barrel that has a 3/8”ID or larger.

Cleanout of the Dynisco Minigran is a breeze. It is a completely “Toolless Entry” piece of equipment. No wrenches needed to open and cleanout the machine. The operator has the ability to operate and maintain the granulator without additional tools. A vacuum, hand brush, and blast of shop air will do the trick.

The granulator has a 1HP (230/460V/3Ph) Direct Drive motor. When the electrical safety circuit is broken by releasing the clamps and either removing the material collection bin, screen or hopper and upper cutting chamber, the motor is turned off and the rotor stops turning. Unlike conventional beside-the-press and central granulators that use a motor and a flywheel, where you need to wait for the inertia of the rotor to stop turning before you open the granulator, the Dynisco Minigran rotor comes to an abrupt stop allowing for quick and easy access to the material collection bin, screen and cutting chamber for cleanout. This is important when you run many small samples and need to make sure that you do not contaminate one sample from another.

With the material collection bin, screen and upper cutting chamber removed, the operator has unfettered access to the cutting chamber and hopper for cleanout. Very quick, simple and safe. The MiniGran comes configured with a Constant Cutting Circle consisting of 4-Sided Stationary Bed Knives (Stator Blades), and Three (3) Rows x 2 cassette knives/row, Rotor Knives. The granulator requires no gapping upon installation or replacement. The bed knives (stator knives) are 4 sided which means that you can use each side of that knife before needing to replace the knife. The 6ea (3 rows x 2 cassette knives/row) are manufactured so that upon installation of a new set the gap is set and there is no adjustment needed prior to torqueing them down, closing up the grinder and returning to operation. Replacement Knives and Screens are very inexpensive and require no maintenance other than to remove and replace when all sides are worn from grinding.
